Jonah 2: 8 – 9
8: They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
9: But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

Greetings Everyone,
The sermon for this Sunday will be: “Thanksgiving Vow” from Jonah 2: 8 - 9. The topic will be Thanksgiving and praise. One of the things that always come to mind when we consider God’s gracious intervention in our lives is whether we are living up to our part of the bargain. Paul said in Philippians3:16 “Only let us live up to what we have already attained.” I wonder, have we done that or has our love cooled? This Thanksgiving let us remember in a renewed fashion our love and gratitude to our gracious God, and return to our first love.
We will be taking in new members next month. We are three weeks into the membership class which meets Sunday morning during Sunday school. It is not too late to join us if you would like to become a member of the church.

God is Always Good!!!
Gentlemen, this evening, the 19th, we will be gathering for our once a month Men’s Fellowship meeting at 6:00 PM . We will be having pizza and beverages (not adult). If you can join us, we will be meeting at the church. Bring something you can contribute to the meal, and bring a friend.
Thanksgiving is just one week away. I know how many have been looking forward to the day, and the time just seems to have slowed to a crawl. I have figured out a way to speed time up, because time is relative. Instead of thinking about all the good food, seeing friends and relatives, and all the fun, think about the indigestion afterward from eating too much, the lethargy and sleepiness from eating too much turkey, and your favorite football team losing their game, and time will speed up, or it will seem to. Seriously though, I do hope you all have happy plans for a great Thanksgiving Day celebration.
This Sunday we will be receiving out Thanksgiving offering for world evangelism. The Church of the Nazarene receives two offerings each year specifically spreading the Gospel around the world: Thanksgiving, and Easter. Unlike many Christian ministries that ask for support, 100% of the money received goes to this purpose. We have set a goal of $700 for our church. Please be praying for what you might be able to give toward world evangelism. We will also give you a chance the following Sunday to take part in this offering.

Preaching the Word!
Moving the Line
As I write this my chest is still a little swollen with pride as I am reminded of the greatness of this land we live in the light of last week-end’s celebration of our independence as a nation under God. Our nation was firmly established according to Judeo-Christian values. To spin it any other way is show ones ignorance of the history of the United States of America . “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.” Ecclesiastes 10:2 (God’s words not mine.)
God set the standard; God laid the line. Just as surely as He gave us the “Thou shalt nots…” through Moses in Exodus 20, God gave us these words: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” (Declaration of Independence). I wonder how far we have slipped as a nation from what the framers intended those words to mean. God has laid the line and man cannot move it, but man attempts to remove the line of God by removing God from the equation, thus all the inaccurate spinning of our history. Now when man lays a line it becomes moveable by the next generation.
How far has the line moved over the generations? I guess we need to determine that by the meaning of: “…life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” God is sovereign over life. Man cannot create life, and most definitely cannot determine with certainty its beginning or end. To end life prematurely by someone else is murder, and to end ones own life is suicide and is not acceptable to God. God gave man only one decision in regards to life and that is how to live it, with Him or without Him, but not how to end it. Now in regards to freedom, God has given us freedom to choose how we will live, but that there are consequences to our choices. God says choose Him; and He will give us the abundant life, but that’s your choice. In this day we are told what we can say even what we can think. I don’t think this is what the founders intended freedom to be. And the pursuit of happiness, well our current position on this is that everyone else is responsible for my happiness. I think you can see how we have moved the line.
Brothers and sisters, I think we as the Church of Jesus Christ need to reestablish our high calling as His people. We cannot say everyone else is doing it so it must be alright. In 1836 Col. William Barret Travis the commander of a little mission turned fortress called the Alamo addressed his men telling them of the desperate battle ahead of them. History says he drew a line and asked all those willing to die for the cause to step over it. I’m not drawing a new line; I’m just asking all who have a resolve to return to the strong foundations of God to step to the right side of the line.
